Commercial Garden Design

Design-led outdoor space for organisations

Cedar designs gardens for commercial and public settings as well as private homes — including hospitality gardens, show gardens for new builds, community gardens, golf clubs, and other shared outdoor spaces.

This is design-led work for organisations that need a considered outdoor space, not a standard landscaping package. Kathryn has worked with a diverse range of clients across the North East, from sports personalities to community health services.

Commercial projects can run from consultation and design through to contractor coordination, planting and completion.

The Design Journey

  1. Seek to Understand

    Visit 1

Hiring a garden designer is a big step so we try to make it inspiring and worry-free.

At our initial consultation we will have had the chance to see if we will work well together and I am the right designer for you.

The next step is to carry out a garden survey to determine the garden aspect, dimensions, slope and key features.

We will take the time to look at all the possibilities and gain an insight into the character of garden and landscape you prefer.

  2. Presentation

    Visit 2

We have already taken the time to understand your needs with our first visit and subsequent conversations so we use our second visit to present a sketch plan of our interpretation of your desired garden.

We will also use this visit to show various options on a "Mood Board" and paving samples that helps develop our understanding of your dream-garden.

This is very much an interactive process and helps clarify the aspects of the design process you would like developing further.

  3. A Detailed Plan

    Visit 3

This is where the whole process takes shape with our presentation of a scaled drawing of your garden, any sculptural or design features, a lighting plan and suggestions on planting plan to help you see how your dream garden will be in reality.

We will also give you a detailed synopsis to help transform the garden of your imagination into a physical reality.

  4. Transformation

    Visit 4

You’ll see your garden really start to take shape as we get into the construction.

I’m on hand to work closely with the contractor, answering any questions that arise and to make sure the design becomes a stunning reality.

Using the master plan a scaled, detailed planting plan is drawn up taking into consideration soil type, climate, drainage, style of garden, your requirements and environment.

Although optional the planting is a large part of the transformation and makes it complete.

What our clients say…

We hired Kathryn of Cedar Garden Design to design a new outside space for us. Our old back garden was tired and upon getting a puppy during lockdown the lawn and planting areas were destroyed in no time. However it pushed us into replacing the grass with a fully paved area and raised beds around our perimeter.

After a few visits from Kathryn and joint suggestions Kathryn went away and came back with a lovely plan including suggestions for tiling, lighting, and a fully drawn-out diagram for the garden and also a planting plan. My wife and I were well impressed with the quality of Kathryn’s work and her suggestions for new plants and shrubs. She also gave us names of contractors to consider to carry out the work.

We finally settled on one contractor Ben Longden who completed a fantastic job in cutting and laying the Italian porcelain tiles we had decided on for our finished design.

All in all I can only say that we were extremely happy with the work provided by both Kathryn and Ben and would recommend both to anyone looking to have a new garden designed. Very professional in all aspects with attention to detail second to none.
